File Association on the Mac

Have you ever tried to open a file, but the wrong application opens it? It happened to me at least a couple of times on the Mac. But, don’t fret. There’s actually a simple one-minute fix to make files to associate with the correct application.

To correctly associate a file:

  • Right click on the file.
  • Select Get Info.
  • Select “Open With.”
  • Select the correct Application.
  • Click “Change All.”
  • Click “Continue” to apply to all similar files.

That should do it. You can test the file if the association is correct by running it. The file should open up with the application that you’ve selected.
